Always Do These 5 Things When You Fly

Flying has revolutionized how we see the world. Instead of trips taking days or weeks, we can reach nearly anywhere in the world in about a day or so. However, the actual experience of flying on a commercial aircraft can be uncomfortable, particularly on long flights. Use the following tips to make your next flight a bit more tolerable.

Stay Hydrated

This is the most important thing you can do to arrive at your destination feeling your best. Modern airliners do a great job at keeping enough air pressure for comfort. Humidity, however, is another story, as airliner cabins are typically as dry as a desert. Consider bringing a water bottle to fill up using a water foundation to ensure you’re properly hydrated for the duration of the flight. In addition, you might want to be careful about alcohol, particularly on longer flights. As we metabolize alcohol, we tend to become less hydrated.

Invest in Noise-Canceling Headphones

Although newer jets are quieter than those in the past, they’re still loud enough to make listening to headphones a bit of a challenge. Noise-canceling headphones essentially block out the noise of the aircraft, helping you relax while listening to music or podcasts. Noise-canceling headphones used to be expensive, but there are plenty of great options available today that are much less costly.

Try a Travel Pillow

Sitting in one position for an extended period can be fatiguing, and our heads and necks often bear the brunt of the discomfort. Consider picking up a travel pillow before you travel next, as a bit of padding and support can help you stay comfortable. If you plan to sleep while on a flight, a small travel pillow can help ensure your sleep is restful and uninterrupted.

Pick Up a Tablet

Many airliners provide streaming in-flight entertainment through smartphones and laptops. However, smartphone screens are small, and even thin laptops can be cumbersome in today’s small seats. A tablet is a great way to enjoy some television shows or movies or a downloaded book, especially when paired with noise-canceling headphones.

Address Your Fear of Flying

Does flying make you nervous? If so, you’re not alone. Fortunately, there are excellent options to address your fear of flying, no matter how minor or profound. Speak with your doctor to see if you can get a prescription for short-term anti-anxiety medication. Another great option is to look into cognitive behavioral therapy options in your area, which have a very high success rate. A fear of flying can make travel much more stressful, and it can even dissuade people from vacationing or visiting friends and family. Knowing you can board an aircraft and feel safe is well worth spending some time on.

You should consider investing in these items to make your next trip more comfortable. Safe Travels.
